Lots of perms. Remember those? We all had them.:
Even a prom updo, care of my father. That's right -- my dad did my hair for prom:
Then it got short...and shorter:
Here is my hair, as it stands (or lays) today, by the glorious light of my bathroom. Dark roots, frizzy, and once again trying to grow it out.

Two days before I had Sam I called my sister to ask her opinion about me making an appointment to chop my hair off (again). She encouraged me to wait until after the baby was born to make such a drastic decision -- I've been growing it out for over a year. I'm glad she made me wait, but now I'm still toying with the idea of going short, yet again. My main motivations for trying to grow it out are that I want a pony tail, and I am sick to death of having the same hairstyle for the past 10 years (see above). On the other hand, I know that any minute half of it is going to start coming out in clumps.

What to do?

Well, Casey, of Moosh in Indy (been in my sidebar for a long while), is holding a contest to pick a deserving winner of a hair makeover. She, along with Sarah, of hair thursday, will be picking a winner (at random) next week while at the BlogHer conference in San Francisco.

I don't know if I'm most deserving of a hair makeover, but, goodness gracious, I am in dire need. My hair is a fright, people, and I am desperate for an intervention. Please offer your opinions in the form of comments -- I am open to them all. Should I go short and dark? Long and blond? Maybe I would be cute as a red head.

Help!

I love your hair short- it's cute, hip and so easy. Plus, I wish I had your curl/wave so take advantage of it. Maybe you could go short again and then have strawberry blond highlights put in.
This is too funny! I'm hondered to be in two of your pics :) This is a hard one, because your hair looks fantastic short, but I can understand the wanting to grow it long again. It will look fab whatever you choose...but I was really liking it super short like when you came out.!
What a fun trip down memory hair lane! I still love the idea that your dad did your prom hair. My dad was only good at doing what we called "Indian pony tails;" not a desired hair du by a young girl. And where's my picture with you having my hair spiraled permed with fluffy bangs?
I going to have to vote for it going short again. I've done the red highlights and really liked them, though they seem to fade fast. Short is sexy...something that doesn't seem to come easy when coupled with the postpartum crud.
I think I've just talked myself into a haircut : )
This pictures are AWESOME. I have destinct memories with each of your awesomely bad hair cuts. I actually like your hair long and permed. It looked really full and pretty. I know perming is totally out of the question but, I thought I would put that out there. Good luck. Short and sassy is always my preference.
I'm a huge fan of the short due, what about blonde with a little red, oh I think that would look fun. I love that your dad did your hair, looks pretty good to me.
I remember when you cut your hair like Jennifer Aniston's first Friends hair cut and it looked so good on you. I love your hair short, but my favorite is long. You seriously have great hair to work with. I personally love being able to pull it back in a messy bun or a pony.
I'm voting for long! I'm all about being able to put it in a pony tail!
And I'm thinking you should go for a red color. Oooooh, fun!
You have the right complexion and eye color to try out some red in your hair. I personally like you in short hair- it's sophisticated- but I know how you feel when you want to put it up in a ponytail and you can't. I like having my hair shorter but every now and then I wonder if there isn't a "perfect style" or "cut" that I would love if I just grew it out again. Good luck and just remember we love you no matter what your hair looks like!
I love hair questions...so here is my advice:
Throw some layers while keeping the length and then auburn and golden blonde highlights (keep them both subtle). Am I too late, did you already get your hair done?
To be quite frank, I was not blessed with luxurious piles of manageable tresses. This would be okay, if I were not also cursed with a lovely shade of blondish/brownish/reddish that can only be characterized with the ugly term "dishwater blonde." I my mind, "good hair days" are akin to an urban follicle myth
